Bionic Student: Adventures in the Walter W. Stiern Library

December 19, 2007

Here is a video prepared by Library intern Marissa Pineda about how to use library resources

Campus Closed

December 18, 2007

The CSUB campus will be closed on December 28, therefore the Stiern Library will also be closed.  Remote access to databases should still be available that day.

Dissertation Abstracts

December 4, 2007

CSUB is pleased to offer Dissertations and Theses: Humanities and Social Sciences from this website:  http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?RQT=302&COPT=REJTPUcyODcrNDZkZSZJTlQ9MCZWRVI9Mg==&clientId=17830&cfc=1

The CSU is funding this resource through its Electronic Core Collection program and, thus, it is available to all 23 campuses.  This database will primarily support the emerging doctoral programs in education that campuses are beginning to offer, but it is useful in many other disciplines as well.

In addition to the direct url listed above,  Dissertations and Theses: Humanities and Social Sciences can be found under Research Databases from the Library’s Home page:  http://www.csub.edu/library/

Internet Messaging

December 4, 2007

The CSU uses QuestionPoint for its “Ask a Librarian” service.
It is our understanding that QuestionPoint is developing an internet
messaging system that CSUB may be able to use in the future.  If this IM becomes
available, we will post the information here and in “Spotlight”
on the Library’s website.

Ask a Librarian for Reference Help

November 19, 2007

CSUB students, as you finish your papers and projects for the fall quarter, you can get around the clock reference help by clicking on Ask a Librarian on the Stiern Library homepage.  We always suggest you consult our own reference desk when the Library is open, but even when the Library is closed, you can obtain assistance at Ask a Librarian.

More New Computers

October 11, 2007

On October 12, new computers will be installed in Walter Stiern Library room 7.  These computers will enhance the Library’s active instruction program in information competency.  The Patricia Brown Foundation made a generous donation toward the purchase of the computers and President Mitchell provided the balance of the financial support for their purchase.

Learning how to find, evaluate and use information is a skill you will value long after your college career concludes.  I urge you to take advantage of any of the several programs our librarians offer in teaching these skills.  You can find out more about these courses  on the Library’s Home Page by clicking  Library Courses under the Research Assistance Category.

New Computers

September 27, 2007

We hope you are enjoying the new computers in the Library’s electronic reference area that are funded by P G & E.  These new computers offer you all the functionality you need to access all the Library’s electronic databases.
